In the past, we’ve blogged about the component phrases that make up the Trailman’s Oath at Trail Life USA. A reader suggested that we assemble them together as a series of links since it wasn’t clear that the series was complete:
- On My Honor (published 11/18/2013)
- I will do my best (published 11/19/2013)
- To serve God (published 11/19/2013)
- and my country (published 11/22/2013)
- to respect authority (published 11/25/2013)
- to be a good steward of creation (published 11/26/2013)
- and to treat others as I want to be treated (published 12/1/2013)
While it’s an important first step to encourage our Trailmen to memorize the words of the Oath, it’s a critical next step to help them understand what the words covey. As they get older, the meaning should deepen, as well.
To help with this process, we’ve also published an article titled “Understanding and Oath or Pledge” (https://traillife113.wordpress.com/2013/11/14/understanding-an-oath-or-pledge/)
NOTE: Its not my intent to suggest a standard interpretation here – even an unofficial one, at that!
My goal is simply to inspire other TLUSA leaders and volunteers to dig into the Oath to better understand it for themselves in light of their own personal relationship with God.
